Welcome to the NiCHE New Scholars comprehensive exam reading list Wiki. This is a workspace for the creation of a basic comprehensive exam reading list for Canadian graduate students studying Canadian/North American environmental history. Our goal is to provide a basic list for graduate students to use as a guideline for preparing for comprehensive exams.

Getting Started

Under "The List" tab you will find the beginning of the comprehensive exam list. This is based on a previously used comprehensive exam reading list in North American environmental history. The categories and the readings on the list are obviously just a starting point. We should begin to evaluate the categories and determine how they should be changed and what ones need to be added. Then we should start to edit the list of readings. Ideally, each category should have between 5 and 6 readings, leaving room for students to add their own readings to customize the list to meet their own research interests.

Collaboration

Because this is an online collaborative project, feel free to edit the list as you see fit. Other members will do the same. Be sure to add comments to explain your changes to the group. In the end we will hopefully come to some kind of general consensus on the list that we can finalize for the NiCHE website.
